Savadori Works on Early Race Pace

Wednesday, 22 June 2016 10:11 GMT

IodaRacing team also test tyres and new rear suspension solution

Work began around 11am for the IodaRacing riders at the Official Test, with rain from the night before then gone from the track and conditions much improved. With a full program to get through for both Lorenzo Savadori and Alex De Angelis, the pairing put in a combined total of around 130 laps as they worked on a new rear suspension link, tested Pirelli tyes, and Savadori worked on his pace early in the race on a full fuel load.

Pirelli brought four new soft compounds for both front and rear for teams and riders to test, before the paddock packs up in Italy to move on to Laguna Seca.

“I prefer the dry,” said Savadori, who had seen the silver lining in having to run on a wet track if that were to prove the case. The Italian rookie has had limited wet weather experience with the RSV4F and would have used the time to test in more difficult conditions, but the sun came back out on the Riviera. “I do prefer the sun, because I have a new setup to try for the start of the race on the full tank. I need to improve the beginning of the race.”

With a number of top 5 finishes already in his rookie year, the 2015 STK1000 Cup winner has impressed and made good progress, despite IodaRacing missing some days of pre-season testing, and Savadori knows what the target is in the mission to chip away at his few remaining weaknesses.

“In the middle I have a good rhythm but at the start I’m not really happy,” explained the Italian. “I’m working on that today. Mainly the front feeling, because it’s difficult to stop the bike with a full tank.”

The proof of the extra Misano track time will be in the racing next time out at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California, as the grid heads west to the US for Savadori’s first taste of the infamous Corkscrew.
